I am Joan, and I am an expertly skilled seamstress in Massachusetts. I have been sewing since my childhood, and my sewing skills include pattern drafting, draping, and clothing design. I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Clothing and Textiles from Framingham State University in 1987.
I began working in the bridal business at Country Weddings, a bridal salon in Central Massachusetts altering wedding/ bridal party gowns, and designed my first original wedding gown there. After two years I established my own dressmaking business called Personal Bridal Concepts. I created custom-made gowns for brides, bridesmaids, flower girls, and for all special occasions. I took over the ownership of Sew Special on August 1st, 2018, at 2442 Boston Road in Wilbraham from Margaret Waugh, who decided to retire after 18 years of service. Margaret had created a stellar reputation for exceptional work and was delighted that I will be continuing the tradition of providing fine-quality alterations and bridal wear. Sew Special by Joan was in business.
After moving to Western Massachusetts, I began Tip Top Alterations, a mobile alterations service in 2016 specializing in bridal, prom, and special occasion alterations in your home.
My three children are grown with families or their own. I live with my husband on our little farm with horses, dogs, chickens, and birds. We are active with our church and I cherish time with my family and enjoy playing with my grandchildren, horseback riding, sewing, gardening, and outside activities.
